Mexico drug wars threaten shale gas fields

Houston Chronicle -- The brutal Zetas gang poses one of the most daunting challenges to the development of Mexico's abundant shale gas reserves near the Texas border.
The gas fields extend from the booming Eagle Ford patch of South Texas deep into the ranch and coal country stretching inland from this violent border city. This is Zetas country, among the most fearsome of Mexico's criminal badlands.
U.S. and Mexican energy companies long have been besieged by the gangsters here - their workers assaulted, extorted or murdered - despite a heavy military and federal police presence. Now, with feuding Zetas factions bloodying one another and fending off outside rivals, what has been a bad situation threatens to get much worse.
Northern Mexico's gas production has suffered for years as gangland threats or attacks...

Comments like "Good thing its Mexico's problem...." and "give the gangs long enough and they will kill each other off" shows little empathy for the innocent lives being taken in Mexico. You should hang your heads in shame for such callous disregard for the l;ives being lost fighting AMERICAS war on drugs. The comment "Isn't that the country that has always been know for it's banditos? " could also apply to the USA (who supplies most of the guns being used by the gangs) After all is this not the country which spawned the North Amenrican Mafia, the Hells Angels, Satans Choice andothers. Your histroia is full of glorified stories of out laws such as Billy the Kid, Al Capone, Bonnie and Clydde and Jesse James... All portayed as heroic figures in American movies and folk lore. The reason the cartels there is because of the market for the drugs is the USA. They are reaping what USA drug policy sows. If the US wants to get serious about the drug problem, they need to address addiction treatment in a realistic way instead of forcing the Mexicans into an all out war where many inocents are being killed. Deal with Americas drug problem and Mexicos war with the cartels goes away.
