if you have the stuff to do it, it's hard to beat the price of do-it-yourself.

My husband changes it for us - for just the cost of the oil and filter, probably about $25.

I do an oil change once a year at the nearest cheap place under $20. The rest of the year I just check the oil level and add more if necessary. As I check the oil level, if the color is really black thats the time to change.

I go the dealership where I purchased my car. they are quick, reliable, and trustworthy. I know that I can count on Strider Buick in Asheboro,NC. They know what they are doing and treat their customers extremely well.

$24 out the door. I used a coupon that I got online from the Monro Muffler website -- it's probably still available there, if you have a Monro near you...

When I bought my LeSabre in 2003, I received a laminated card good for free oil changes. But, why would I drive more than 60 miles (round trip) to get my oil changed?

I do it myself - as I have always done. At first, the cost was $9 for the oil and a filter. This last change was $32 for synthetic oil and a GOOD filter (not that I ever had a problem with the cheaper orange filter).

If I do the oil change, I know the filter was tightened properly and the drain plug was tightened sufficiently. Too many people working by the hour don't care whether things are done correctly. Leaving Salt Lake City one summer, I stopped for gas before crossing mountains. The guy who checked my radiator took off the cap, releasing pressure. It was warm but not hot since we had just been visiting the Lake and swatting the salt flies. I cautioned him about putting the cap on correctly. Half way up the mountain, we were stopped on the side of the road waiting for the engine and coolant to cool enough to add more water - from a small creek on the side of the road. Trust yourself!

As I am currently an apartment dweller, I do not have the facility to change my own oil...but I have found that buying my own oil and filter leads to a substantial discount at some places.

Also, when I lived in a house and used to have an older high-mileage vehicle that needed everything topped off I still found that the cost advantage of changing your own oil shrinks by the time the shop adds power steering fluid, transmission fluid, and coolant.

Finally, with student discounts, providing my own oil, and utilizing their weekly ad, I was once able to get an oil change at Jiffy Lube for a whopping $3.50( + oil and filter of course).

I do my own oil changes with a synthetic oil and premium filter. With 300,000+ miles so far, that speaks volumes to me on the benefits of good and regular maintenance.

Unless you own a weird little foreign car, an oil change is one of the easiest maintenance jobs to perform. It might take about 15 minutes to do, and you aren't throwing away your hard-earned dollars paying for over-priced mechanics.

Most Pep Boys, among other auto parts places, will take your used oil and filters for free. So will recycling centers. And don't forget to use top-of-the-line oil and filters. Since you save money on the labor, you can easily afford them.

I've not had to opportunity of learning how to change oil in my car. So taking a class would be wonderful. The prices in our time is so uncomfortable. Being self sufficient can be beneficial don't you think?

I pay for my TV commercials through my cable bill. They don't cost anything if you only get broadcast television. And what I spent was more than spare change. And it certainly wasn't oily!

No oil change required. I just drive it 'til it won't go no more. Than I push it into the harbor and get another one.
